NaBloPoMo Day Seven - What I Will Miss

You know that I have been excited about our new home, but there are things I will sorely miss after the move. One is my neighbor's tree. It's some sort of maple, but it is my personal barometer for the arrival of Fall. I don't usually notice it until IT HAPPENS. The day I walk out my back door and become aware of the yellow canopy above:Her greenery will magically transform into a symphony of gold, seemingly overnight. The carpet of leaves underfoot thickens by the day, as each leaf breaks away from its lofty perch and tumbles onto our parking spots.Roger isn't so fond of the tree. He sees Poo Woo's water dish, collecting leaves. He also sees the dog's food dish, that must be voided of leaves before more food can be added.Me? I'm really gonna miss this tree, and her fantastic display. There aren't any trees on our property quite as magnificent, and certainly none that will immediately greet me at my back door.Besides, her leaves match my dog.
However, thanks to Pamela, I may soon have some trees of my own that will burst into a vibrant fall color. She answered a question I had about her "Two Trees" post, and did a lot of research for me! Turns out that her neighbor got them from the local Rotary club, so she had to ask HIM about the trees. He gave her the number of the Parks Department lady, who in turn, had to call her "tree guy." And after all that effort (thanks again, Pamela!), I will be on the hunt for some "Fall Purple" (sometimes called "Autumn Purple") White Ash trees!

Hey, you're getting pretty good at this posting daily thing. Think you can keep it up after November is over?

Can't wait to see another house update. I bet you're getting anxious!

(Cute photo of Poo Woo, BTW.)

It must be a maple tree? I am assuming you took that picture some other time. We have no leaves on the trees and it snowed the other day. You will get used to the new place and there will be new things in your life that will replace the old tree.

The tree is pretty, even as it dumps leaves. But the dog and those "someone please pet me" eyes are too much for me. I wanna snuggle your pup.

Will they ever be as magnificent as that gorgeous maple? Hmmmmmm.

Maybe you should get one of those, too. Maple leaves starting to come down in huge piles here.

I can see why you will miss the tree and don't leaves make good compost!

Your dog's eye are soulful!

Oooo, you reminded me of "The Fire Tree" we used to love to watch evolve during autumn... Its colors were spectacular year in and out. It's back in SC...I'm looking for a "Fire Tree" in Tennessee now.

And, hmmm, I wonder what kind of tree it was....

Good trees are usually the ones that grow slowly (the hard wood kind). I put some poplar trees up once (big mistake). They grow fast, die fast. A Bradford pear is a nice shaped tree but you need to give it a lot of room. They get so many branches though. I suppose that's where pruning comes in. An oak tree is probably the best type of tree for strength.

That is a great tree, but now you get to choose whatever kind of tree you want to have at the new place.

desert songbird - I may have to post more often - I didn't realize people out there actually read my blog! And thanks - I'm planning a PooWoo-themed post for the weekend.

sirdar - I actually took these photos Sunday, November 4th - in Arkansas, we still have LOTS of leaves on our trees. This one is dropping them like crazy, though.

amanda - he LOVES a snuggling - he is a good dog! You are welcome to dog sit (he'll actually sit on YOU) anytime!

pamela - I really like the maples, but I don't think they grow quickly. I am NOT patient!

bermudabluez - I am excited, and trying to build a nice, big yard for Poo Woo is one of the most difficult house decisions yet.

chrisb - I think he does have a good spirit - he is SUCH a good-natured dog, even if he is a spaz.

robin - if you find out, let me know! I need a fire tree of my own.

junebug - I've been warned about poplars, and I'm leaning toward the Bradford pears. A friend has some japanese maples that are cool, too - but not too big.

kaytabug - I may still own our old house come next fall - but I had to take one last set of photos, just in case!

beckie - as long as it is pretty and FAST GROWING - that's the only challenge in picking trees.

bond - I will come plop on your couch today - glad you are enjoying my daily drivel!

Trees that grow too fast also aren't as strong. Their branches break easily in the wind. We have an oak tree with beautiful leaves that stay on until nearly winter (they turn red) that is 30 years old. It took a long time to grow as big as it is but it is huge now. I love Japanese maples but they are hard to grow in our climate it seems. Dogwoods and redbuds are so pretty but they don't grow as strong.

I wish our trees did that. I'll warn my dog (Boo) that Poo Woo week is coming.
You're doing great posting!

I think you should post more often. Your stuff is always fun to read. The tree is gorgeous, but not as gorgeous as Poo Woo! Sasha would love a Poo Woo playdate.

junebug - thanks for the tips. We DO have a lot of wind in the area...so I'll have to hunt around for some good, strong trees. I have some already, but there is one side of the property that could use more.

min - thanks so much! And everyone needs a little more Poo Woo!

melissa - Actually, NaBloPoMo isn't as hard as I thought, so I may be posting a LOT more often! (Just not EVERY day...) Maybe I'll make Poo Woo famous someday - he is my most favorite pet!

Very nice lay of the land you have there, I love that tree.

Cheers

We have a few trees that the previous owner planted too close to the house that I think you could have. They're still small enough for a move. I'm just glad to look all around my property and not see a single pine anywhere. Yay!

nocturnal - thanks so much! I actually can't wait to show everyone our NEW land - it's bigger and better.

memphis steve - Will they fit in my pickup? I have a few pines, at the edge of the property - and a few cute cedars. They'll make for good "yard Christmas trees."
