NaBloPoMo Day Twenty-Six - A Fun Monday, Unfinished

This Fun Monday should have been a breeze for me, but it was more difficult than I expected. Blue Momma in her Fish Bowl wanted to see our unfinished projects, including photos. I could have a million photos posted, but then, you would never visit my blog again. It's that bad. So I've chosen the ones that are pestering my brain, but still not getting done.

First, the ordering of light fixtures. Most are selected, except two ceiling fans for the living room - which must be different than all the others, b/c of their proximity to one another. Some lights are already purchased and in storage - but I have to drive out of town to pick up more, oh...and pay for them, too. Here is a photo of my research, which includes matching bathroom fixtures (and towel/tissue holders) to the lights:Now if you remember the Fun Monday where we showed off our bookcases, you might remember this photo, and my other unfinished project? Packing - which we "sort of" started today. Which means Roger packed some stuff, while I groaned about it.Another reason I'm glad we are moving? Because I have a lot of unfinished painting to do, and it is almost impossible to paint a room with 10-foot ceilings, and still manage to live in the house. Here is a snapshot of a portion of Amber's room that we never finished:The major unfinished project is featured in the post below this one.

Now go check out all the Fun Monday participants, and you're sure to feel better about YOUR unfinished projects!

Good idea to plan for Christmas at your current home.

No doubt you win for having the most projects!

The last photo made my heart skip a beat. Don't paint that old woodwork!

I just finished painting the interior in our house this year....it's a lot of work I agree, a major project, but ohhhh when it's done. Always an improvement.

Sandy said...

I don't think my shelves have EVER been as organized as yours but I do feel much better about my painting!

Thanks for doing that just in time for the posts!

kila - actually, the woodwork is already painted - just a dark brown. If we weren't so concerned about lead-based paint, I would have stripped it and stained it!

hootin anni - love the new avatar! And I'm hoping we can get it all done after we move out our stuff.

sandy - they usually aren't organized - I'm hoping to do a better job in the new home.

I think I'll put up a photo of my kitchen. Just to scare people.

I think you sure COULD have used your new house as THE major unfinished project!! Then, again, you got a nifty Day 26 post out of the other stuff, lol.

I'm impressed with your piles of research...those details would've made me kinda crazy...er ;). Color me impressed with your attention to all that!

I remember ordering all the new stuff when we moved. Now THAT's a project!

Robinella said...

Moving is possibly the best source for rejuvenation. I love moving so much that we do it about every 3 years. Not on purpose, but it does help with the unfinished business.

Kaytabug said...

I'm with Robinella. I forgot about the towel racks I bought to make our bathrooms more kid friendly, they are still in the packaging!
I don't envy the self packing you have ahead of you.

Beckie said...

Packing sucks, but unpacking is worse.

swampy said...

YAWN! I'm tired. I'm off to take a nap if I can machete my way through this unfinished project.

I love Green Day, and I think the unfinished, raw look of the wall compliments the poster of them very well.

Sauntering Soul said...

Hang in there! It's going to be so nice when everything is complete. However, that never seems to happen does it?

Tiggerlane said...

m@ - please do. I know you have the munchies a lot.

robin - it IS making me crazy! If I didn't care what went up there, it wouldn't be such a big deal. But I DO care. It can't just be anything - I'm anal that way! And driving myself insane.

bren - I have gotten to the point that I keep saying to the builder, "Whatever you think." I thought this part was supposed to be fun?

robinella - I'll bet it helps streamline your stuff, too. We have a lot of crap I can't wait to toss when we move!

kaytabug - I am scared to pack. I will spend hours sifting thru stuff and rehashing memories, and won't get a thing done!

beckie - I almost want to throw everything into garbage bags, and throw 95% of it away!

swampy - I'm with you. This Fun Monday is making me tired!

matt-man - I'll tell the kid, but then she'll probably want to mess up the new walls! Notice the duct tape on the doors? Her idea!

sauntering soul - I really hope there IS a day when everything is done...but then, there is laundry!

Totally agree. You can't paint unless the room's empty. Packing? I certainly don't envy you that one. But, unpacking? Stick a fork in it. I'm done!

Junebug said...

Well, you've got projects galore to go with moving and unpacking once you move. A clean slate though....

The Rotten Correspondent said...

We've also got ten foot ceilings and you're absolutely right. You can paint the room or you can live in the house, but not both.

Your new house is going to be wonderful, but I think you've made the right decision to stay put until after Christmas.

Good luck all around!

Tiggerlane said...

anglophile football fanatic - I'm just afraid of what I'll find in the corners that paint won't cover!! I like unpacking, too.

junebug - I'm actually going to take BARE ESSENTIALS to the new house, and spend a month or two going thru stuff at the old one.

the rotten correspondent - it is SUCH a pain to paint a few feet, get down, move the ladder, paint some more, etc...I can't wait to move!

susan said...

It's a lot of work now, but it's going to be sooooo worth it in the end!

karisma said...

I remember it well, moving house and then fixing up the old house, only to have the new tennants destroy it it six months. What advice do I give to my friends these days. SELL SELL SELL

kitten said...

I only listed house project didn't list the decluttering that needs to be done again after 3 months. How can one house get so messy?!?

Bond said...

Stopped by to say hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving...and to see your unfinished projects...OH my have to run...have things to do...hehehehe

Amanda said...

Moving would be good. It cuts down on unfinished projects and you can start new ones!

Tiggerlane said...

susan - just having more than one bathroom will be totally worth it!

karisma - we do NOT plan to rent - we are hoping someone will buy it and renovate it like we always wanted to.

kitten - uh, I didn't really show the decluttering, either. I was too embarrassed!

bond - you make me wonder what you're up to on that couch!

Tiggerlane said...

amanda - we cross-commented! Didn't mean to miss you! Yes - I plan to take some extra time to "simplify" our lives - which means throwing stuff AWAY!

Peter said...

With two houses providing ammunition you take the cake for the most unfinished projects!!!! now go take a nap.

Melissa said...

I have lots of weird paint things to fix on the ceilings. My bedroom walls are a color called "porpoise" - it looks just like it sounds - and the ceilings are white. I dinged the ceilings in three different places with a roller full of porpoise and it drives me nuts. I just lie there at night and go, "one day, I'm getting out the white paint..." :)

daddy d said...

You are right about ships-in-bottles having to fold down in order to fit within the neck of the bottle. That must all be thought out before hand. Planning is good.
I hope there are any unfinished project at your new house. The builder should take care of that for you. Organization can come over time.

Tiggerlane said...

peter - after taking last week off, then facing MONDAY - I need a nap like nobody's business! Snore...

melissa - I'm all about professionals, after watching them paint. Just hire one. It's totally worth the beans and cornbread you'll have to eat to pay the bill.

daddyd - thanks for the advice! And I don't plan to move in until every little thing in the new house is finished...after today's Fun Monday tour, I see how difficult it is to "finish" stuff!

Gattina said...

I never thought that house repairs would belong to projects ! As we are not at all do it yourself people for everything which has to be done I have to pick up the phone and that can't be an unfinished project, unless the line is busy, lol !

Joy T. said...

I think you're on the right track about moving near Christmas. Oiy what a load of stress that would be! The house sure is coming along though. So nice!

Sirdar said...

Building a new house takes a lot of work. I think having a few unfinished things are not that bad considering how much you have done up to now. One day...It will all be done.

Pamela said...

getting a late start viewing the fun monday posts. With moving you're just going to have a huge list of project to finish. Oh I don't envy you at all. (Well, I envy the new house and the porch!!)

dawn said...

When we have moved, I am the one to do all the packing and unpacking. Sirdar has to help load the truck and do paperwork, contact different utilities, and stuff. I love packing at the beginning. I hate it when it comes down to that last bit of stuff that doesn't fit in anything. It will be nice to paint an empty room. I have some walls I want to paint, but I have so much furniture around the space and bookshelves and no room to move them. I think I will have to wait until we add on, to paint those walls.

Kaytabug said...

"I am scared to pack. I will spend hours sifting thru stuff and rehashing memories, and won't get a thing done!"

That is SO me!!!

Tiggerlane said...

gattina - I'm SO with you! I can do it at my office without guilt, but at home? The hubby might get offended if I call in the "pros."

joy t. - thanks - and I don't need more stress...just the thought of unpacking the tree is bugging me, but I'll do it.

pamela - at least they will be projects filled with HOPE and PROMISE! I will have twice as much room in the new house, so it will be easier to hide messes.

dawn - I agree - I just can't paint around stuff, you know? Unfortunately, I am doing the utilities, etc., and Roger is packing. And I'm not sure he's doing it right - b/c I'm a control freak!

kaytabug - so - wanna come help me pack? I'll let you do the reminiscing, and it will save me loads of time! I might get something done!

mjd said...

The one of the benefits of moving to a new house is not having to fix up the old house. Those 10' ceilings do have some fascination.

Tiggerlane said...

mjd - Yeah - I wanted the 10' ceilings in the new house, but the builder told me that 9' ceilings cost less overall, and have the same effect. We may just hire people to fix up the old one. It deserves a facelift - and I already feel bad about "abandoning" it!

Kaytabug said...

Sure I'll come help, will your Offspring babysit mine? The great thing is there won't be any reminiscing with someone else's stuff!

Tiggerlane said...

kaytabug - Just remember, my Offspring has no younger siblings. By HER choice! I'd bet we could get a LOT more accomplished if we able to declutter each other's stuff!

I AM the Queen of Procrastination; hence, all of my projects are "works in progress."

desert songbird - my BODY is the biggest work in progress, I just didn't have the heart to show everyone how far BEHIND I've gotten!
