NaBloPoMo Day Twenty-Five - House Update

I have made a decision. I am NOT going to try to celebrate Christmas in the new house, even if the builder is absolutely sure that we are going to be in by then. With our luck, we would get to move in the weekend BEFORE Christmas...and that's just too much stress to handle during an already stressful time of year.

That being said, do you think I've put up my tree in our current house yet? Uh, no. With all the packing that has to be done, I just haven't gotten up the energy to unpack the Christmas decorations. I know, I suck.

I was surprised to find we had windowsills this past weekend, here in the master bedroom:
And in the living room:
And the dining room:
And they had started putting some shelving in Roger's closet:
There are so many little details left. Baseboards, the final painting, cabinets, lighting (some of which I STILL haven't bought and picked up yet), guttering, SIDING (yeah, STILL not done), railing, septic tank - so I'm not holding my breath for a holiday moving date. But I knew what to expect. At least the siding guys got most of the big siding completed:
And the interior doors are all hung, though I forgot to get a photo of that:

I really don't have any complaints, and I'm patient. It will all be done, soon enough. Not in time for a New Year's Rockin' Eve, but soon enough.

I wonder if this would qualify for tomorrow's "Fun Monday" assignment? Nah - too easy, right?

Exterior door in the master bedroom? Hmmmm - do I see a hot tub somewhere in your future???? Or are you just planning on sneaking out after the kiddo is asleep?

Beautiful house.

I can't tell you how smart your decision is! The house will be there for years, why screw up this Christmas and give the house negative karma simply for an artificial deadline. Enjoy the new house when it's ready to take you.

As for decorating the old house, why not take the opportunity to just let it slide, it will be a different set of memories and different xmas photos to remember the old house by.

BTW the new one's looking good.

Trying to plan for Christmas in that new house would likely drive me insane. I'm with you on that one!

Now, thanks to Sandy, I want to know all about your late night hot tubbing plans, because all I can think about is this (just the beginning part - I can't find the "Lovers" sketch by itself anywhere.)

If I find out I have an awesome hot tubbing blog buddy my life will be complete.

sandy - I know I'm going to want to go out on that porch in the mornings. I just KNOW it! And I'm already considering that hot tub - just not in the budget yet.

matt-man - you are too funny! We DO need to install a toilet, tho.

pamela - thanks for the vote of confidence that I'm making the right decision.

willowtree - you sound like Roger - he doesn't think it necessary to put the major tree up. Thanks for solidifying my decision, too - I believe in karma! We have more Christmases ahead.

melissa - LOL!! The wine part is hysterical - I had forgotten that clip! Fallon could hardly hold it together! I will have wine, but we'll have to wait until I make some more money to add onto the porch/deck for the hot tub. (Don't tell Roger, but I've already run my deck/hot tub idea by the builders!)

You know what? Move into that house when it is completely ready for you! Christmas is stressful enough already without the added worry of moving.

Your new house is just beautiful already! And yeah....go ahead and enjoy one last Christmas in this house and then you can start all new memories at the new house next year! The holidays are crazy enough as it is!!

karmyn r - I agree. And The Offspring's birthday is the 26th, so we'll wait to have a big party for her when we are all moved in.

bermudabluez - it is so good to hear this type of encouragement that we are making the right decision. I'm hoping to have a peaceful little holiday at my old digs.

I actually thought of you yesterday when I watched The Real Housewives of Orange County (NOT because you remind me of them - by any means! ;) ) But because a lady on there was getting a pool and couldn't do it for under 500,000 because it had to have an underwater volcano. Her husband was like, No! WE need to stick to the budget! If only our troubles were like that, right? ;)

melissa - OMG...a $500K POOL?? And WTF is an underwater volcano? Some people have more money than sense!

Well, it is coming along. Hopefully it won't be too long before you move in. I love your low windows.

dawn - thank you! It seems to be moving faster now that it is cold. The builders seem more motivated.

It sure is coming along. I hope you get in sooner then the planned date so you can have your Christmas in it.

sirdar - I hope to have cabinets soon...I still think we'll honor the old house with one last holiday!
