I know I'm a little overdue for a house update, but now is when everything...slows.....waaaay......down. There HAS been progress, but it's not as exciting as when the walls were going up at lightning speed. The good news? Our general contractor is as frustrated with the lack of speed as we are.
I wasn't sure if I had ever posted a photo of the front of the house, so here ya go:We got our first coat of primer the other day - and don't those bull-nosed corners look neat around the dining room windows? Here is the rest of the living area. There is SO MUCH dust in the air! All those very large white cables coming out of the wall are "pre-wiring" for a Bose surround-sound system, if we can ever decide on one. There are also wires in the attic for them, so that we can hang a multitude of speakers in the ceiling. We are gonna ROCK!Our wall texture is called "orange peel," and is very light. It was tough to get a close-up of the texture, but maybe you can tell something about it:That texture photo is like NOSE-DISTANCE away - so it's very subtle. The concrete crew also came back and did some work on our retaining wall, getting our drive one step closer to fill dirt:And wait a minute...who is that? Putzing around in the yard? Why...it's my MAN on a LAWN TRACTOR!Don't laugh - that's really what they call it. A lawn tractor - not a lawn mower. Whatever. But Roger has been oh-so-proud of "working the new land" on this puppy.Nothing like a new toy to make a guy happy! Who says a freshly mown lawn isn't pretty?
Meanwhile, painters are painting, siders are siding, and MAYBE we will be in by Christmas! I am just now realizing that I have no matching dishes, no matching glasses, no sheets for our new king-sized bed, and no sheets for Amber's new queen bed. Guess what we're getting for Christmas?
Oh, and a special note to Melissa: Sorry I didn't do a Grey's recap this week, but feel free to run amok in the comments. I just figured, with the writer's strike and all, we could use December to rehash prior episodes, since we won't be getting any NEW ones for a while!

That porch is awesome.
I like the orange peel wall texture! Been thinking of doing that here, too, since the boys are terribly hard on our walls and we need to hide all the dents!
Hey don't laugh! Lawn tractors have bigger decks and more horsepower than ride-ons.
A writer's strike would mean an improvement for Grey's.
Orange peel is pretty standard around here. It drives me nuts with cleaning walls, though. Mr. Clean Magic Erasure is my new best friend.
I'm still in awe over that front porch, and now I read you're getting a Bose surround-sound system?!?!?! Hot DAMN!
Lookin Good Tigger. Have a good weekend.
I had to enlarge the pic to see the bull nose. Yes, they look good. :D We have a John Deere just like that.
kila - I think it will be better (and safer) once the railing is up. Orange peel is "THE" thing for walls now.
willowtree - Okay - I guess I compare this little bugger to my uncle's big tractors. At least Roger likes it!
desert songbird - so, are you ready to make a trip to Arkansas? Come enjoy the view!
matt-man - thanks! You, too!
junebug - if it breaks down, I know who to call! And thanks!
We have that orange peel on the majority of our walls. It is kind of a pain when you have to patch a hole. I don't get why it is so cool.
My hubs has the same Deere. I wanted it due to my Grandpas farm equipment was all Deere and his lawn tractor too. Nothing runs like a Deere! My hubs still calls it his riding mower...
Great update,lookin' good!
God. I love that porch. And the picture of Roger on the lawn tractor is so cool!
I have only one comment on Grey's last night - is George getting spray tans now? He looks overly chiseled for some reason. Also, yay for Dr. Bailey!
Well, the house looks great, and the subtle texture on the wall is nice. We have some walls with more texture than we would like, but I am not about to sand them down. Thanks for the house update. We call them lawn tractors here also. My man like new toys, but then again, I would be so excited to be shopping for the new things you mentioned for the house.
Is Roger actually mowing the grass or just clearing the land of the leaves?
I never realized Dr. Bailey was so short.
Bose Rocks!!
kaytabug - I'll note that about the holes. As for the Deere? Roger was even thinking of buying a CAP. Sheesh.
melissa - he is gay, right? So spray tans are appropriate - dontcha think? I also think that's why there's no "chemistry" between him and Izzy. Come drink on my porch so we can discuss.
dawn - I would be excited, too, if I had more money than I do! I'll figure it out, tho....
karmyn r - there actually WAS some grass - you can see it in the first photo. It's all mowed now. The leaves are still around, and will be for a while.
beckie (and melissa) - Bailey SO deserved that job! In the beginning! WTF was the chief thinking before? And WHO is Hahn hot for????
Again, I love the porch ... having the opportunity to pre-wire is so cool... I spent two days in the attic in the house in NJ wiring for the stereo system what a pain...
enjoy the weekend and thanks for the kind words on The Couch
I would like to come and drink on your porch! There is just something about "front porch sittin'" Love the orange peel and the house pics are just fabulous!! Nice pic of husband on tractor!
Oh! Forgot to mention....are we starting to like Lexi a little more?? Meredith's going to freak when she finds out about her Dad!
bond - you are invited to the porch drinking party...bring the gravy!
bermudableuz - Thanks so much! And you are welcome to the party as well. I must have TOTALLY missed something on Grey's - what happened with the dad?
Nice big house!! It sure is coming along. It won't be long before you are living your dream.
Dear tiggerlane. Wow, looks like a great house! I'd love to have a verandah like that to relax on in summer, catching a breeze while I'm reading a book... ahhh...
sirdar - thanks...but it sure SEEMS like it's taking a loooong time. Or maybe I'm just tired.
little miss moi - you are welcome to come visit my verandah anytime - bring books!
