T...Trees that grow too fast also aren't as strong. Their branches break easily in the wind. We have an oak tree with beautiful leaves that stay on until nearly winter (they turn red) that is 30 years old. It took a long time to grow as big as it is but it is huge now. I love Japanese maples but they are hard to grow in our climate it seems. Dogwoods and redbuds are so pretty but they don't grow as strong.Junebughttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14437322290492196588noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20550909.post-70951278944235515782007-11-07T08:18:00.000-08:002007-11-07T08:18:00.000-08:00desert songbird - I may have to post more often - ...desert songbird - I may have to post more often - I didn't realize people out there actually read my blog! And thanks - I'm planning a PooWoo-themed post for the weekend.

sirdar - I actually took these photos Sunday, November 4th - in Arkansas, we still have LOTS of leaves on our trees. This one is dropping them like crazy, though.

amanda - he LOVES a snuggling - he is a good dog! You are welcome to dog sit (he'll actually sit on YOU) anytime!

pamela - I really like the maples, but I don't think they grow quickly. I am NOT patient!

bermudabluez - I am excited, and trying to build a nice, big yard for Poo Woo is one of the most difficult house decisions yet.

chrisb - I think he does have a good spirit - he is SUCH a good-natured dog, even if he is a spaz.

robin - if you find out, let me know! I need a fire tree of my own.

junebug - I've been warned about poplars, and I'm leaning toward the Bradford pears. A friend has some japanese maples that are cool, too - but not too big.

kaytabug - I may still own our old house come next fall - but I had to take one last set of photos, just in case!

beckie - as long as it is pretty and FAST GROWING - that's the only challenge in picking trees.

bond - I will come plop on your couch today - glad you are enjoying my daily drivel!Tiggerlanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12084094580971149293noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20550909.post-63750339396828624612007-11-07T07:47:00.000-08:002007-11-07T07:47:00.000-08:00Beautiful tree.... yucky leaves on the ground...Ni...Beautiful tree.... yucky leaves on the ground...

Nice to read a post from you every day...

miss you on The Couch

Searching for a Peaceful World...Vinny "Bond" Marinihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07033455144526676371noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20550909.post-62528867561877418532007-11-07T07:16:00.000-08:002007-11-07T07:16:00.000-08:00That is a great tree, but now you get to choose wh...That is a great tree, but now you get to choose whatever kind of tree you want to have at the new place.Beckiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08428690536368982418noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20550909.post-25047696886257793812007-11-07T06:25:00.000-08:002007-11-07T06:25:00.000-08:00Beautiful tree beautiful dog!I would miss that tre...Beautiful tree beautiful dog!
I would miss that tree!Kaytabughttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11823989062127968170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20550909.post-3247425761208876972007-11-07T06:23:00.000-08:002007-11-07T06:23:00.000-08:00Good trees are usually the ones that grow slowly (...Good trees are usually the ones that grow slowly (the hard wood kind). I put some poplar trees up once (big mistake). They grow fast, die fast. A Bradford pear is a nice shaped tree but you need to give it a lot of room. They get so many branches though. I suppose that's where pruning comes in. An oak tree is probably the best type of tree for strength.Junebughttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14437322290492196588noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20550909.post-74872472530427431902007-11-07T06:11:00.000-08:002007-11-07T06:11:00.000-08:00Oooo, you reminded me of "The Fire Tree" we used t...Oooo, you reminded me of "The Fire Tree" we used to love to watch evolve during autumn...
