NaBloPoMo Day Two - My House KNOWS

I have lived in a sweet LITTLE Victorian bungalow for the last 14 years - and in retaliation for our impending move, it is self-destructing. First, the oven decided that 350-degrees REALLY meant 550-degrees - so one of my agents gave me another oven. My house made sure that the donated oven malfunctioned and imploded, too. We didn't replace the oven a second time - after all, it was about summertime, and we didn't need the extra heat.

Next? Two of our window air conditioners blew. Or didn't blow. We had to replace at least one of them, lest we melt from the summer heat. Cha-CHING!! Then the weather got cooler, and it was time to pull out our little electric heaters that supplement the heat from our gas stove. Guess what? NOT ONE of them worked. Okay - extra blankets, extra clothing, and the purchase of ONE heater for the bathroom, b/c we can't wear clothes in the shower. Tiny cha-ching!

A few days later, the dryer revolted, ruining about 10 precious items of clothing with scorch marks. We replaced THAT item immediately. Cha-CHING!!

The other night? Look at this:Oh no...no...no...no!! Live without tv in the bedroom? No late-night chuckles at David Letterman? No last-minute scandalous report from TMZ? And the horror of horrors - NO WEATHER??!?!?!? NOT gonna happen.

We had planned to let Amber have this tv for her room, move our current living room tv into the new bedroom, and buy a ridiculously huge plasma tv for the new living room.

Guess who got her tv early, and is letting us borrow it?
Can you say, Cha-CHING?!?!?!?

Yeah, this stuff happens in multiples, you know. My friend Greg just told me his washing machine went ka-plewie, and I'm cringing as I wait for the next shoe to drop (as if he doesn't have enough crap going on!). Hubby called me tonight to say his car had broken down; this after my car had been in the shop for four days.

Sigh.

Hobo kid! Run with that Tigger, it may even be better than hobo carts (don't tell Melissa)! Sorry about the house revolting- your new one won't do that. (At least for 5 years, my new house is revolting 5 years later.)

Jenn! Hobo-cart traitor. You are on silent treatment as of now.

Sometimes things seem to happen when they are least convenient. Your appliances breaking down as you are building a new is bothersome. The reverse happened to us. When we moved into our home on a struggling teacher's salary with a one- year son, our sump pump died, the water softener gave out, and the dryer needed repair. All turned out okay as we are in the same home some 30 years later.

mjd - as I understand it, the builder is required by law to give us a one-year home warranty - so I'm gonna hold him to it. And in my business, I see that happen to folks a LOT! It's rotten - and it's also rotten that teachers don't make more.
