NaBloPoMo Day Five - Fun Monday!

Whew! I don't have to think of an original post today, thanks to Deborah, The Humble Housewife, who is hosting this week's Fun Monday!! She wants to know about our holiday traditions, preferrably involving food. I'm not really sure she wants to know about ours. She may wish she hadn't assigned this to my family. Not only is our tradition NOT season-appropriate, it's really not appropriate at all. It involves Peeps.
Granted, I can't remember how this started. I want to blame my mother, since we both have sick, twisted senses of humor. My family tradition is Peep torture, and it's OH SO FUN!
It's really very simple. You know how Peeps are all squooshy and stretchy? Oh, I wish I could find our photos of The Offspring and me doing this - we LOVE IT! Simple take a Peep, and while you are biting his tail and stretching it out, make a horrible squealing sound! It's even more effective if you tease the Peep - just pull a little so he screams, then let off - then give him a good surprise yank and make that YELP in your mouth.

The best part? Biting off the head. We "fake scream" as our mouths gape toward the ever-frightened, half-mutilated Peep (we save the head for last - easier to hear the screams), then bite down. As we are chewing (more effective with mouths closed), the Peep's feeble pleas for help can be heard inside our mouths.

Remind me next Easter, and I'll post video. Except the kid and I can NEVER get thru the whole ordeal without busting out with laughter, Peep juice running down our mouths. Good holiday fun.

Ahahahahaha!!!! You sound like my kind of people!

Oh yes, we are cut from the same cloth.

I liked Peeps as a child because I liked any kind of candy. But now I don't really like them, but I still love cotton candy. I could overdose on it.

That's funny! My diabetic husband is a huge fan of Peeps, too.

Bren said...

Yum! We love Peeps too! I actually saw Halloween ones that we jack-o-lanterns this year.

Schmoop said...

This entire post sounded like some twisted porn movie script. I liked it. Cheers!!

sayre - thank goodness - as I read what I had written, I felt like a sicko.

melissa - then you are twisted like me! Yippee!

junebug - I like to squish cotton candy into little balls, and then suck on it. Which now that I've typed that, sounds kinda nasty.

anglophile football fanatic - keep that man away from those peeps!

bren - Oooh! New Peeps for us to torture!

matt-man - twisted porn? Oh...now I have to re-read it!

Sauntering Soul said...

That is hysterical! So much more exciting than my family.

Sandy said...

Oh my gosh! What fun! Thanks for making my next Easter a little more fun!

Alix said...

Brilliant idea, I've never had a Peep but I'm going too find some now and behead them!

Yes! Kill the peeps! I saw some ghost peeps this year, how bizzare!

Peep torture? WHO are you guys? :) Freaks! I will have to come back to see that video. :)

Jenni said...

We are big Peep fans, too, but my brother is a Peep fanatic. We send each other disturbing clips of Peeps being tortured and experimented on each spring.

I've just got one question for you. Do you prefer your Peeps fresh and squishy or a tad stale and crunchy? I open the package and let them sit for a day or so because I like them better a bit stale.

That is so funny, I was giggling just picturing it. I would love to see video. Very much something we would get a kick out of in our house. Thanks for this morning's laugh.

sauntering soul - excitement DOES have it's upside, but the downside? Laughing until you pee your pants. I'm just glad the hubby does the laundry.

sandy - I'll try to remember to post the instructional video next year!

alix - hey - bren said there are HALLOWEEN Peeps! I may have to torture some this year.

susan - ghost peeps would definitely scream in more howling tones, I think...sounds like a new project for me!

lisa's chaos - oh yeah, we are DEFINITELY freaks. No question.

jenni - you had better put me on your peep torture list!! I like them soft - they stretch a lot longer before their parts separate from their bodies, producing better and longer-lasting screams.

dawn - you're welcome. Sounds like I have a video to make next year! As long as my readership is still around...

This post is sooooooooo NOT surprising to me. Why is it that I expected something like this from you? And what the hell does that say about ME?!

kitten said...

That is too funny! Sounds like my family!

Jill said...

so funny. we always bite the ears off the rabbit and then talk to him and he goes "what" cause he can't hear. i'm sure you've seen the cartoon. anyway, funny!

ChrisB said...

I've never heard of peeps before. However I could see my grandchildren having great fun trying this!!

SwampAngel65 said...

Hands down, the finest tradition I've read so far! LOL!!! (I hate Peeps...rip all their heads off! You ahve my blessing!)

Beckie said...

Peep torture...wow, I've never tried it. I don't like the filling, but the torture sounds fun. That didn't sound all that great....

-Ann said...

Sounds like fun. We were never allowed to have Peeps. Or cotton candy. Or spaghetti-os. Or pop-tarts. I guess that was our daily anti-sugar tradition. :)

Anonymous said...

Peep Torture? Sounds fun.

I never liked peeps....can I torture the chocolate bunny instead?

Vinny "Bond" Marini said...

I rip off their heads and shove my tongue down their neck and scoop out their guts....

Anger issues? Not me!

Tiggerlane said...

desert sonbird - it means we are birds of a feather! Hope no one pulls off our wings!

kitten - I'm glad - it makes me feel less odd.

lil mouse (jill) - GREAT cartoon! And that's a tradition we may have to start.

chrisb - Peeps are a marshmallowy, sugar-laden treat - and they look ever so innocent.

-ann - I was only allowed treats on holidays - NEVER any pop tarts, and I got pizza once a month - after I got into high school. My family was pretty anti-sugar, too.

karmyn r - torture away! I don't like Peeps, either, so it makes the torture more fun.

bond - you can't hear them scream, if you go that route!

laurie said...

ha! my brother makes a habit of hiding peeps in my sister's shoes.

and these aren't children we're talking about here; they're both in their 40s.

peeps are eternal!

my4kids said...

lol your funny! I like to start with the eyes!

Amy W said...

OMIGOD, that is hilarious.

theotherbear said...

I love this! What a funny tradition :)

Anonymous said...

I despise Peeps and all their little marshmallow friends. I am thankful that you torture them.

Tiggerlane said...

laurie - Peeps squishing between toes? Now that's some SICK fun!

my4kids - just leave one intact, so they can see you coming - it makes them scream in a panicked fright.

amy w - Oh, but the video is priceless. I'll have to do that next Easter.

theotherbear - I may have to start a Peep Torture Club!

robinella - it was bad enough that there were just Peeps, now they come for all sorts of holidays, in different colors! ARGH!

Anonymous said...

I've never seen (or even heard of) peeps, but it does sound like fun.

M@ said...

You are literally a geek, Tigg.

Anonymous said...

My kind of humor!

Anonymous said...

Oooohhh...you're peeps are made of marshmallows! I thought you meant they were baby chickens. No wonder it wasn't as much fun when I tried it.

Molly said...

I think that there are Peeps for all seasons, ghosts and bats for Halloween and hearts for Valentine's Day, but, of course, the real Peeps are the best...headless or otherwise.

Anonymous said...

I love Peeps! And it seems now they have them for every occasion. I'm surprised I haven't seen potty training peeps!

This was a great post - definitely unique among the FMs I've visited so far!

Robocop said...

Torturing Peeps! I like it. I bet those memories will last a lifetime.

Tiggerlane said...

willowtree - maybe if you win a prize in April, someone will send you some!

m@ - please tell me a geek is higher up on the evolutionary scale than a nerd.

feefifoto - I feel better, not being alone.

min - Oh, but I'll bet they screamed louder!

mjd - yeah, I'm an old-fashioned, yellow Peep kinda girl.

blue momma - I think I proved I'm a sicko with this post. But you're right with me - on the potty training Peeps!

robocop - oh, yes. It's the tradition my child will be more than please to pass on to HER offspring.

Loved it !! I just hope they don't come out with Santa Peeps - Snowman, maybe but not Santa!

Anonymous said...

OMG that is hilarious LOL I've tried a peep but even for my sweet tooth I found them much too sweet. Now I know I don't have to eat them. I can just torture them LOL

Anonymous said...

LOL!! Funny story. I absolutly hate Peeps. They are soooooo sweet that I just can't eat them. Not sure how you can...but if you can...enjoy them!

alisonwonderland said...

so, so funny! i'm going to have to share this with my kids! :)

you know, now that they make Peeps for other occasions, you might be able to do this more than once a year! (lol.)

bichonpawz said...

You don't know the half of it! We were on a Peep Kick for awhile. My husband actually made me an entire little display of "The Dixie Peeps"! Complete with little instruments and microphones! Have you seen the Peeps Sites on the internet....entire websites dedicated TOTALLY to Peeps?? Who says we're not freaks?? Must be why I like your blog.

Dea said...

OMG - Too funny! Glad you shared... we do the same with chocolate bunnies and Santa is a goner at Xmas too! ;-)

Anonymous said...

OMG, you are cracking me up!
While we've never done this with 'Peeps', the chocolate bunnies at Easter, are tortured,by having their ears chewed off.

Kaytabug said...

I would so do this if I could stand the taste of peeps.

Tiggerlane said...

bs - they have snowmen AND gingerbread man peeps! Let the torture continue!

joy t. - and your mouth won't muffle the screams, if you can just pull them apart with your hands. BONUS!

sirdar - I have a real sweet tooth. I'm that idiot at the dentist after Valentine's day from eating an entire vat of those candy message hearts.

alisonwonderland - now that I've discovered the gingerbread man peeps, you guys might get video in time for Christmas!

bermudabluez - Okay, I'm DEFINITELY going to look for those Peep sites, b/c the official one is more nauseating than the candy.

deborah - I'm going to have to mutilate some chocolate rabbits this year - I have missed out on this trend.

christine - at least the bunnies can't hear their own screams that way!

kaytabug - do like joy t. suggested - just pull them apart with your bare hands!

Karina said...

OMG, video please, yes! You are too funny!

Yes, I'm just now getting around to the Fun Mondayers...better late then never, right?

Thanks for the smiles...always :)

LOL! Thats so funny! I love your tradition...very unique:)
Hey and thanks for the comment...

Tiggerlane said...

karina - always better late than never! I'm actually thinking of torturing gingerbread men at Christmastime - more limbs to pull!

robin the pensieve - You are welcome! I never said I wasn't odd...I guess this proves it!

luv4zoe - you are welcome! Unique=strange, right?

Jo Beaufoix said...

Hee hee hee.
But what is a 'Peep'.
Does it make an actual noise or do all the sound effects come from you??

Dallas said...

Hehe, cute. I like microwaving them and seeing how big they can get.

Tiggerlane said...

jo beaufoix - All the sounds come from me - and a Peep? It is that marshmallowy sugary confection you see in the photos.

dallas - AHA! Thanks for a new idea for Peep torture!
