Gettin' Popped

I'm no longer a chiropractic virgin! I got popped for the first time yesterday, and although I was scared, nervous and panicky - it went pretty well! I made the appointment based on advice from my massage therapist, who was amazed at the tension in my back and neck (I'm sure frequent computer use and 4-inch heels contribute to that). She made sure I had two deep tissue massages before visiting the chiropractor. During the first visit, he asked lots of questions, took many x-rays, performed several motion/reflex tests, administered a TENS unit treatment, and stretched me gently. He also gave me a solid neck-popping, after I FINALLY relaxed. I have visits scheduled during the next two weeks to fully work out all of my "kinks." I am already experiencing increased range of motion in my neck, back and arms, so SOMETHING is working. If you've had any experience with bone-crackers, fill me in.

One of my claims to fame is the ability to recite the alphabet backwards. Guess when I learned how to do it, and why? As you'll see here, it can come in handy - but you still might get popped.

Is that video for real? That's the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. I think I recognize that guy. He lives in Oklahoma, I'm sure. I can't even remember now what your post was about I've laughed so hard.

Oh yeah, you had your back popped. I love going to the chiropractor. Hope it helps.

One of my good friends dad was a Doctor and thought Chiropractors were quacks. So after having that driven into my head I was always very skeptical.

However - I witnessed a miracle over Christmas. My 87 yr old FIL had back surgery in September and instead of getting better, he slowly got worse...the doctors couldn't find what was wrong with him or where his pain was originating. We didn't think he was going to make it...couldn't even get out of bed. So - just after Christmas, the Chiropractor came to the house and did an adjustment and deep tissue massage on his back and legs. After he left, my FIL got up out of bed and walked to the dining room table to eat with the family. WE WERE SHOCKED and amazed...and I'm a believer now.

I've never done chiro, but it might behoove me to do so soon. My neck is killing me.

I didn't watch your video, but if it's the one I think, I posted this a while back because I thought it was hilarious. Someone told me it was actually a skit from Reno 911 or some other Comedy Central show. Dunno, but it was pretty flippin' hilarious!

I received chiropractic for several years for bad neck and back pain, and found that while it did work well, the cure was temporary and would eventually show up again.

Out of desperation I tried acupuncture, and after 4 sessions the pain never returned, that was almost 6 years ago.

That was supposed to say "I received chiropractic treatment..."

That was a 2nd trip for me through that video..... just as funny I'd forgotten all the dance moves.

My boss goes and gets cracked at least once a month. I've never tried it....

I would be so nervous...but I hear it really works. Congrats on feeling better!

Regarding the alphabet, I'm guessing you have also been arrested for DUI?

Regarding massage therapists, I love how they're always telling people how AMAZED they are at how tense everyone else is.

swampy - I wish the video was real - it's from Reno 911 on Comedy Central. I have my second "popping" today - and I can't wait!

karmyn - that's a great story! I was VERY skeptical as well, but two of my agents are total believers, so they convinced me to go. So far, so good.

desert songbird - you probably need a deep massage first - check it out! And yes, it was the skit - but still freakin' hilarious!

WT - I'd like to try acupuncture, too - I know I have trouble with my nerves.

pamela - I'd seen it about a year ago, too - but it's still funny! Does your boss like the cracking?

melissa - I was VERY nervous. At least the guy I'm seeing is gentle. (Somehow, that sounds suggestive....)

matt -- NEVER arrested. Stopped twice, and passed the tests with flying colors. The recitation of the backwards alphabet helped a LOT.

I was so scared to get my back popped. The first time I went, he cracked my neck first and I couldn't believe all the crackly sounds that came out of my little neck! Then the TENS unit----is that not the most awesome invention! I wonder if you can buy them for personal use! ??? Hmmm...

Anyway, just stopping by to check out your blog. Saw you from Dan's place.

Be well!

I like bone crackers.

I can't say the abc backwards sober. Maybe I could drunk.

You can say it backwards AND type something AND have a conversation with someone at the same time. Can't you?

I can say the alphabet backwards too. I have never had to use it.

This is such a timely post for me because I've been having so much discomfort from my hip (broke it a year and a half ago) and it makes my back go out. People keep telling me to go to a chiropractor but I have always been skeptical. However I finally decided to give it a try. I haven't made an appointment yet. But I'll be very interested to hear more about your experience.

I can hardly recited the alphabet forward while sober!! LOL...I'd be up the creek, not to mention that I have lousy balance sober as well!! hahah!!

deb - thanks for stopping by! And yes, you can get a TENS unit from a medical supply store - don't know if a physician has to order it or not, but they are AWESOME!

vicki - try saying it drunk AND sober...it will help! And yes, I probably could. I'm sure that says something about my mental state.

mist1 - We need to form a club!

angelina - appointment number two was even better than the first - I actually feel better (a little sore, tho) than I have in a loooong time. I'll keep you posted - but so far, so GREAT!

claudia - does your balance improve with alcohol?

Chiropractics still scare me. One nearly paralyzed my husband when he saw one (a very good one, and she's his cousin too yet) for his back problems. Any relief he felt was always short-lived, and then worse pain would replace it.

Acupuncture works great. I know several people who were completely cured of neck and back pain after doing acupuncture. I think it's a lot less scary and risky. It's very relaxing. A lot of people fall asleep during it.

I used to visit the chiropractor when I could afford it. My insurance does not cover it.

I can't wait to be able to afford it again.

I'm still a virgin ... I wonder if I can get someone to pop me!

momto3cubs - acupuncture sounds like a great idea. Of course, I kinda like the popping feeling! I'll keep everyone posted - especially if my tailbone falls off.

c - it IS getting expensive...but maybe I'll be in better shape for my trip. I'm gonna give it one more week.

matt-man - I was cajoled into having a green beer, and thought of you!

sarcasticynic - then why don't they understand how to manipulate ours more gently?

dan - for enough money, I'm sure ANYONE can get popped!

claudia - then we totally need to go dancing drunk!
