Fun Monday Ornamentation

Kaytabug is hosting this Fun Monday - and wants us to show our favorite Christmas ornament. I STILL haven't put up my Christmas tree, so you'll have to settle for some old photos that don't really showcase them - excited already, aren't you? I made Victorian ornaments like those my mom used to make - involving pins, decorative ribbons, and sequins. B/c of my long nails, I've stopped this tedious procedure, but I hope one day that my vanity will wane, and I'll return to the craft.

My favorite one is in this photo - the red one, middle left - I actually won 1st prize at our county fair for this very ornament!I started off with the traditional kits that you can find at any craft store, and then moved on to make some original designs. The top ornament in this photo is an original - while the star below is from a kit.
I'm really hacked off that I can't seem to find the closeup photos from long ago - they really showed off my work. The Santa and reindeer are also pin/sequin creations. There are snowmen somewhere, but I couldn't readily find photos of them.
Lastly, another shot of the prize winner - bottom left. It's a shame these aren't closer - because that ornament in particular has crystal dangles and beaded rope chains - it was exquisite, and lots of fun to make.
Now go check out some great ornaments, from bloggers who have better photos!

One day your daughter will really love and appreciate these; my post today is of my mom's hand-made beaded ornaments (yours are more elaborate). I would love to try my hand at this...maybe I need to make a run to Hobby Lobby...Hmmmmm...:)

They're all beautiful...take close ups and post 'em again when you unpack the boxes (even if it's NEXT year).

karmyn - you have a good memory! Yes - it was part of a crafty Fun Monday!

sandy - you are right. I was going to assemble them for a craft fair, until I figured out that it takes 3-4 hours STRAIGHT to finish one of the easy ones!

chrisb - thanks - I have to reassemble them a little bit each year.

a slice of life - yes, many years ago! I have a ton of stuff to do more - I just need to get rid of my nails and DO IT!

kaycie - thank you!

carrie sue - the reindeer has a cute little bell - and red and gold are my favorite Christmas colors.

robin - will do!! and thanks - I have gotten to blog-hop much today...hope to do so very soon, and will check them out!

They are all so pretty! I don't think I could pick a favorite. I just can't believe you made them! You are much craftier than I!

Hi there...They are so pretty!!! the first one I just get an x? but the rest woow!! I am thinking that takes a long time!!!!! But very pretty!!!

Those are so incredibly beautiful! Have you ever thought of trying to make a side business out of making them? I'd buy one!

All those sequins and pins.... that is so much work.

Did your fingers get sore??

Worth it, of course!

Bren said...

Wow! Those are beautiful ornaments! I like the cute little reindeer!

Tiggerlane said...

anglophile football fanatic - thanks! and did you know, you can make these and WATCH FOOTBALL AT THE SAME TIME??

jo beaufoix - it is definitely laden - but I like my store-bought glass items, too.

willowtree - I should, but I. Just. Can't. I have to at least put up the tree. One more time in the old house.

blue momma - thanks! I will have to get more close ups, when my tree is done!

jettie - thanks! Sometimes, the photos don't load - hopefully I'll have better ones soon.

sauntering soul - I did think about it, until I figured out how much TIME they take. I'd have to charge $30 an ornament to make it worthwhile.

pamela - INCREDIBLY sore - and that's when I DON'T poke myself! I was silly and didn't dip each pin in glue, so some are falling apart...but I have a whole box of red balls - ready for me to tackle. I know better next time.

bren - thanks! The reindeer is a kit - you might still be able to find it somewhere!

I'm glad you included that picture on the post below because it really drew my attention to the post itself. What a great idea! I hope you get some answers. And I think you should make an ornament like that picture for this year!

Those are very pretty.

I made similar ones when I was a kid. I wonder if those kits are still available? The ones I made are on my parents' tree.

Tiggerlane said...

laurie - and I'm liking the word "spangly!"

jenni - a DNA ornament is a GREAT idea! I like the reindeer, too.

ellen b - it is nice to have something "personal" on the tree. And patience is a wee bit thin!

lisa's chaos - thank you! I play the piano, too.

mjd - the old house isn't decorated, and the new home isn't ready. It's my weekend project.

kaytabug - if I could get $30 per ornament, it might be worth it...and thank you!

bond - many thanks - I need to see your tree, too!

kitten -it's the 2200 lights that make the difference.

bermudabluez - I actually cheated - these photos are from last year. Busted!

nekkid lizard lady - I may have to post a tutorial - maybe next year. They are NOT as hard as one might think!

m@ - I got it today - and one of my agents agrees with you.

christine - I think it will be January for the new house. And thank you for the compliments!

robinella - I found them at Walmart a few years ago, but they can be found online, too.

peter - thanks...I think?

sirdar - you and everyone else seem to like that the best...

kila - they have kid versions still, and I KNOW the kits are still available!
