Fun Monday Movie Quotations

You're almost ALWAYS guaranteed a post from me on Fun Monday - and this week's host is a relative newbie to our group, The IT Guy. New participants in this weekly tradition always bring new life to the game, and this week was no exception. He wanted five memorable lines from five different movies, tell who spoke them, and how we could have used them in our own lives. My all-time favorite movies? Easy - and the lines? Not so. But here goes!

From "Six Degrees of Separation," I love the line spoken by Ouisa Kittredge's character: "I am a collage of unaccounted for brush strokes. I am all random." I could have spoken this line to the many people I encountered during my last 3 years of college. It would have explained a lot and kept feelings from being bruised.

From "Gone With the Wind," the famous line of Scarlett's: "I can't think about that right now. If I do, I'll go crazy. I'll think about that tomorrow." I tell myself this all the time - does that make me a procrastinator? Actually - I need to hear it more often, since it rarely works.

From "Parenthood," the wise (but daft at times) Grandma uttered these words of wisdom: "I always wanted to go again. You know, it was just so interesting to me that a ride could make me so frightened, so scared, so sick, so excited, and so thrilled all together! Some didn't like it. They went on the merry-go-round. That just goes around. Nothing. I like the roller coaster. You get more out of it." I need to repeat this to my husband, whenever he is frustrating by watching me juggle the full plates of my life.

And I couldn't pick just one line from "American Beauty." They both come from the ulikely character of Angela Hayes, played by Mena Suvari: "Everything that's meant to happen, does," and "I don't think that there's anything worse than being ordinary." Oddly enough, I would choose those quotes for The Offspring.

From "Titanic," as Rose spoke: "What? Do you think a first class girl can't drink?" I think I need to reserve this line for future use, don't you?

Now, go check out all the other participants lurking at the IT Guy's place!

Good choices! I almost used the same quote from Gone With the Wind. I also thought about using Scarlett's monologue about never being hungry again, but I have obviously never experienced anything like that!!

Love the Parenthood Granny lines. That movie has a lot of good dialogue. And that lovely song about diarrhea!

I like the way that you have personalized your qoutes. I think that this quote, "I am a collage of unaccounted for brush strokes. I am all random." applies to most of us at some time in our lives.

Oh yeah! I like that line from "Gone with the Wind" too. :-) I think about it sometimes at the end of a bad day and that things will be better the next day. :-) Thanks for joining! Happy FM!

What an empowering, but comforting thought--everything that's meant to happen does. Remembering this would save us a lot of grief, wouldn't it?

Good picks, wonder if our chooses have to do with the type of day your having. Hope it less crazy today but still full.

I think those are some great lines to pass on to your kids. :) I had forgotten the one from Parenthood, but I love roller coasters myself. :)

mariposa - wondered if anyone would like the ones from American Beauty. Thanks for stopping in - happy FM!

arkansas songbird - LOVE the diarrhea song - that whole movie is priceless.

mjd - that makes me feel better - so many people seem to have it "all together, all the time."

i.t. guy - thanks for hosting! And yeah, I need to remember that line a LOT.

faye - it sure would! I'm a control freak, and it's hard to remember that I can't control things sometimes.

iamwhoiam - I hope so, too - then again, I like the GOOD kind of crazy - the busy kind.

lisa marie - oddly enough, those lines come from the character who is NOT the best role model in that movie!

peter - can't wait for the final tally.

bermudabluez - glad you approve!

dave - Princess Bride! How could I have left that out! Not to mention all those Monty Python movies...dang!

jennifer - glad you like them - and it was a great topic this week.

I was going to count how many quotes came from "Gone with the Wind," but I see that Peter is doing that, so I let him count them all, then use his calculations.
Great quotes. Love the brush strokes one.

I have always loved Grandma's speech about the rollercoaster. But the follow up line by Steve Martin just slays me... "If she's so brilliant, how come she's sitting in the neighbor's car?"

Pam said...

Wow! Those are great lines. I love them all. I am random so your first one speaks to me! But I really like the second one too....great job!

I so wish I could be like Scarlett...I will worry about that tomorrow. I am more like, "I'll worry about everything today and tomorrow!"

Kaytabug said...

I love every single one of your quotes, they all speak to me. I am so random. I could say that Gone With the Wind quote everyday! I am a firm believer that everything that is meant to happen does, and I hate feeling ordinary.

Oh and I read in a comment that you are a Priscilla fan? AND you guessed my movie quote...we have great tastes!!

American Beauty is my favorite movie of all time.

There were several from Gone with the Wind I liked. It is amazing the variety of quotes I am seeing. Unfortunately, my guy quotes don't have the same genre feeling as yours and many others. Yours are great though, I have seen all of your movies (don't tell anyone)... NLM (in disguise)

sayre - I love that, too! It's one of my favorite movies, b/c of all the lines like that.

pam - thanks - I was hoping some of you out there could relate to the "random" line.

tracey - you and me both! I am horrible about that. I need not worry at all, but I'm famous for it.

kaytabug - like you said, BFFs! Dopplegangers, maybe?

m@ - I think you would like "Little Children," as well.

NLM - if you have seen "Six Degrees of Separation," I am MIGHTILY impressed!

min - LOL!! Yup - she beat you to the punch.

jettie - I like that one a lot, too - especially the look on her face when she downs that drink!

thefoodsnob - you are kidding, right? Tell me you're kidding.

sauntering soul - I used the drinking one, just the other night!

jo beaufoix - it was between that and "Real men make their own luck," except the character isn't one of my favs. The actor (Billy Zane) is hot, tho!

"I am shocked! Shocked! To learn there is gambling in this establishment!" - "Your winnings, Sir." - Casablanca.

"Last night I shot an elephantin my Pajamas. How he got in my pajamas, I'll never know!" - Groucho in "Animal Crackers"

"The party of the first part (...) found to be not in their right mind (...) It's okay, that's what they call a Sanity Clause." - "Ah, you can't fool me! There ain't no Sanity Clause!" - exchange between Groucho and Chico in "Night at the Opera".
