Semi-Moved In

You know, in the process of building a house - you forget, in all the excitement, that you have to MOVE.

Notes for next time:

Do not start retching when you see what is behind a dresser you haven't moved in 14 years.

Do not apologize, while retching, to movers who are hefting dresser, for all the dust water buffaloes lurking. They have seen worse, evidently.

Do not attempt to move the cat without adequate protection, lest you want your husband's blood all over your new tile floor.

Move everything at ONE TIME. Because if you don't? Once you're settled, you NEVER want to visit the old house to get the rest of your stuff.

A dumpster can be your best friend, especially when you haul 8 bags of worthless trash out of your old home in 2 hours.

If the child is over the age of 10, keeping toys from her baby years is pointless.

Now, on to the photos you really want to see:The big screen is a LOT bigger than it appears here. Oh, and DVR? How on EARTH did I live without it?This is our new king-sized bed. We bought the frame at our local furniture store, and the nearly new bed and boxsprings from a friend. Said friend wants the mattress back, b/c the new one he got doesn't feel as good to him as this one. Tough. Wait until I go on vacation, then you can bed-sit.

Here is an idea of the living room. Notice that there aren't any photos on the wall yet? Roger isn't thrilled about driving that first nail.On to some new art my aunt gave me, and check out our bamboo shades in the bedroom! We have "Shanghai White" shades like this in the living/dining rooms:The dining room table was also a gift from my aunt. Those are lion pedestals - and the movers had a LOT of fun with the 7 1/2-foot piece of glass:Here is a semi-panoramic view from the kitchen area:And a panoramic of the bonus room with a small bit of Roger's musical equipment moved in:We did a "sound check" around the house, and none of the neighbors should be able to hear the drums or screaming electric guitars. Sweet.

Here is a view of the bar and our new barstools. I still haven't trained the natives to put things AWAY and to use the coat closet. And the master tub is AWESOME - nothing more relaxing than a bath in this sucker. Jets rule!More photos are available here on my flickr site.

And for the record, I keep waiting for hotel management to knock on the door and kick us out...it will be a long time before it TRULY feels like we belong here!

It is all so beautiful!! I just LOVE it!! I really like your comforter set. I bet you will feel like you belong there sooner than you think!!
Once it doesn't look like a home having an open house. Pictures on walls helps...I understand not wanting to drive nails in those beautiful new walls ...How about those 3M things you can get at wal mart they work really well!

Hotel Management - that's funny!

I love your new house! Can I move in and watch TV with you?

I just said "OH what a great kitchen!" to no one. Well, maybe my dog was listening from the other room? I have to stop talking to the screen.

I love the new place! Yay! :)

willowtree - thanks!

sandy - JCPenney special - on sale!

anonymous/simply jenn - I got all the housewarming items, except that big shoe had to go in the back yard...

daily piglet - thanks! Wanna come help me make margaritas in the new kitchen? It needs to be broken in!

pamela - you are welcome to come over, anytime!

bermudabluez - thanks! I think I'll feel better after I clean some more, too - and break something! Maybe a nail in the wall will help.

chrisb - I actually feel at home in the bed. I was hoping our new house wouldn't feel "sterile," so I'm glad it looks homey to you!

tiger lamb girl - the sleep is AWESOME - no kids screaming next door - just the peace and quiet of the country. Thanks for the compliments! If I put stuff on the walls, it will feel more like it is mine.

lisa marie - thanks! And as for the moving, I HATE it...but the unpacking and putting things away is cool.

desert songbird - thanks - and I was thinking that the other day, that it might take months. It's only been 9 days, and I think I am expecting too much too soon.

kaytabug - that's a great idea! I think that would help - the 3M things, and a big, fat party.

beckie - it really does feel that way! The hard-wired smoke detectors might be contributing to that feeling. Never had those before.

memphis steve - sure! Except you can't bring Spongebob Stinkypants. No way.

melissa - glad you like it! They always say a kitchen sells the house - so hopefully, it will help it really sell someday.

Hey there! Saw your comment about the hubbys age differences over at Memphis Steve's blog and thought I'd pop in to say hello! :)

That a gorgeous place you have there..and I will KILL for a decent master bathroom. The Peanut King and I can hardly fit in ours together!

Tiggerlane said...

sauntering soul - thanks so much - the COZY part is what had been worrying me - didn't want it to look too sterile for my friends to be comfy.

stacy the peanut queen - thanks for stopping by! And we have been sharing a tiny bathroom with our daughter for 14 years - DEFINITELY time to move on!

I think I'm a little in love with your kitchen! It's fantastic!

Kila said...

I love your kitchen and wrap around counter! We would use that a lot!

I recognize your bed and end tables with the tile accents! I saw those in a furniture store and wanted to buy those end tables, and the matching entertainment center and computer desk! We could have matched! But now we have to buy a new car instead, darn!

Glass table, wow. I couldn't have that here, LOL.

Enjoy!!

Oooooh! Aaaahhhhh! Whoaa!

It's GORGEOUS!! I love it! You did a great job picking out your colors and tiles. I wish I had you 5 years ago when I was building mine...

And the DVR? Can't. live. without. it.

I'm usually 7 years behind each technological advance and I fought the DVR thing with both fists flyin' - but now...we're goooood...

Robinella said...

Do tell what you are using to keep the noise down. My hubs is a musician as well and we really should soundproof.

Your new home looks great.

M@ said...

Nice. You'll definitely want to haunt that sucker after you die.

Tiggerlane said...

aoj & the lurchers - I'm actually in love with it, too - especially since I haven't had a dishwasher in 14 years - except for my husband!

kila - we have good taste! I didn't know they had an entertainment center - I'm going to have to save my money. And yeah, I have one kid - 14 y/o - so I'm allowed the glass table.

tracey - thanks! I sure hope so - I STILL haven't finished packing the old house.

susan in va - being in real estate and watching all that stuff on HGTV HAD to have helped. Oh, and we had a power surge today - thought we had lost the DVR, and I almost CHOKED!

robinella - we situated the bonus room above the garage (but still accessible from the main house). I also had the contractor add some serious R-factor insulation in the surrounding walls before the sheetrock was hung, and added a door on the room so it could be shut off completely.

m@ - yup, until I build the next one! I'm eyeing the other acre on our property. The house appraised for more than it cost to build...and I'm already thinking of becoming a developer.

Isn't that the best feeling ever-that your house is so comfortable and pleasurable that it makes you feel like you're taking a luxury vacation?

Everything looks great! I'm so excited for you guys.

I hate the process of moving. Too many things get lost.

Tiggerlane said...

jettie - sounds like we have the same tastes! I love the new television - official HDTV of the NFL!

theotherbear - thanks! We are VERY pleased with the outcome...

robocop - I've been wearing the same jewelry for two weeks, and can't find ANY of my pictures...that has been a bummer, but I'll survive!

Occidental Girl said...

Yay! Moving sucks, but it's good when it's over. Nice house!

WOW!!! What an awesome HOME you have built. Looks great. Thanks for sharing.

Tiggerlane said...

occidental girl - thanks, and I'm STILL waiting for all the moving to cease. But we're in.

sirdar - thanks so much - maybe I should build another?

Your home is your haven where you get peace. Thats why you decorate it with your taste and comfort level. And for comfort the first consideration is the choice of your furniture. Wheather it may be your living room furniture, bedroom furniture, children's furniture or your dining / pub table, it is very important to choose your furniture wisely. Your furniture decisions totally depend on the available space, need and cost you are looking for, and of course the maintenance you are willing to do.
