Fun Monday Slogan Wear

It's that time again - when you are almost ALWAYS guaranteed that I will post! This week's Fun Monday Host is that snarky Aussie, Willowtree, so go visit his site for a list of participants. AND...he is a comment whore...AND he loves site hits. So visit more than once. His assignment was for us to show off some clothing art. That's tee shirts, baseball caps, hoodies, sports uniforms or any bit of clothing that we own that has interesting, funny or artistic graphics. This Fun Monday will take a LOT of time for those of you with slow browsers, so I'm keeping mine short.

I KNEW I saved this ONE t-shirt from college for some very special reason. At the time I wore this shirt, I was a shy, withdrawn, anti-social, prudish little thing. NOT!! Actually, every spring break during my college years, there was "THE SHIRT." The ONE shirt that EVERYONE who was ANYONE at South Padre Island, Texas, HAD to have. Spring Break of 1990? It was this gem, featuring mock-ups of Calvin and Hobbes on the front (two of my favorite cartoon characters):One the back? Well, LONG before The Simpsons were a big hit - Matt Groening produced a cartoon strip entitled, "Life is Hell," which I had discovered and become obsessed with. Guess who was often in the background of those cartoons? Bart, in a rudimentary form. In fact, The Simpsons had just premiered in 1989, so guess who the designers thought would be PERFECT for the back of this shirt? And that phrase? Well, "Drink until he's cute" was just a different version of slapping those beer goggles on. The "theme" shirts each year were so popular, that they guys' version was produced as well, but I don't have that one.

The Offspring has an entire collection, but I said I was going to be brief. So here's her favorite:And I couldn't find a photo of Roger in his "Old Dudes Rock Harder" shirt - which refers to MUSIC, you sickos...but this is one he's had for a looooong time. And no, he's NOT being sacrilegious here:Have a great Fun Monday - and watch this upcoming Wednesday for a big house udpate!

Roger is merely making an interesting theological statement. I just reread your post, and I see that you have bravely called WT a snarky Aussie...he,he.

I mean really....with a line like that "My eyes are up here"....even LADIES have to look at those knockers to read what's written! LOL [never could get the sense of that on t-shirts]

BUT!! being who I am, I can understand how she feels.

I LIVE just miles away from Padre Island....I know just what Spring Break is like! EVERY spring.

I love Rogers shirt.

Have a FUN MONDAY

Boo hoo, I SO miss Calvin and Hobbs!

Love Roger's shirt!

Your shirts reminded me of my MTV Spring Break shirts. Back when they first started doing them, I would go down there with my boyfriend (a cameraman) and work as a photographer. I'll have to find some pictures. Anyway, I don't have any anymore - they just reminded me of one big headache - that lasted for about three years.

Drink until he's cute. You know I never needed a shirt to tell me that. Somehow I figured it out all on my own.....

Great shirts!

There was a day I could have used that T-Shirt. Now, I fear, the eyes are up there. Sigh.

Great shirts.

I love all of those shirts. The eyes is my favorite.

I love Roger's shirt! Is that baseball team sponsored by a bank? Just checking....

mjd - I wonder if willowtree will notice? And after all these years, I still just LOVE Roger's shirt.

hootin' anni - Yeah - Amber's shirt makes them read it...which puts their eyes DOWN...pointless! I can't believe people actually LIVE in or near South Padre - people like me, on Spring Break, would drive me INSANE!

her indoors - now, I will have to find one for Roger...is it written near the waistline? Or on the back?

lisa - I do, too - but I have their cartoon book collections to read over and over...

sayre - that would have been a DREAM job for me! Of course, I'm sure I would take photos not fit to publish. And yes, I don't miss the hangovers and headaches.

blue momma - thanks! And it always took me a LOT of drinks - and some of them never got cute...just blurrier.

pamela - I fear the day when the boobs are at my waistline...and my butt is hitting the back of my knees.

debs - thanks! Actually, another kid at our local high school was told to change her shirt when she wore this - but mine hasn't been sent home since she is at the middle school.

sandy - we must have cross-commented! Funny - I think it's actually a basketball save...I didn't realize how small the writing was until after I posted the photo. Thanks for the laugh!

I have a pair of shorts that has the same saying as your daughter's t-shirt....

Love the college shirts...

Roger's shirt is Awesome, and having a teenage daughter I can just see mine wearing a shirt like that she'd think it totally cool.

Now I've got that song, "Billy's got his beer goggles on!" Stuck in my head!!

Fun collection of Tees, Tiggerlane!

"At the time I wore this shirt, I was a shy, withdrawn, anti-social, prudish little thing..."

As I was reading that, I thought, "My, she sure has changed!!!", but of course, then I read the "Not" lol.

As is often the case, you made me smile with your post. And never in a thousand years would I have reason to wear the shirt your daughter has on...I'm afraid my eyes are bigger ;).

Beckie said...

The whole family got into this one - lovin' that!

Yeah, those beer goggle shirts....don't miss them so much.

Have a good week!

I like the Jesus Saves shirt:o) And I think 15yodd could use one like your dd has.

Katie McKenna said...

love these T-shirts! Such a fun whimsy collection!

Tiggerlane said...

bond - so is the saying in the front of the shorts or the back?

christine - thanks! I don't know that song - is it country??

robin - I'd be happy to let you have hers - I'm also wishing she was NOT so petite in other areas, b/c then no one would notice! (Yeah - can you EVER see me being shy? Well, only at formal events...but I'm usually just trying to keep my mouth shut so I don't embarrass myself!)

beckie - the kid really does have some awesome shirts. I may have to post another time about them! (If I finally join NABLOPOMO, I'll need to!)

jenni - I'm really glad no one seems offended at the Jesus shirt. And there are times I wish I had my daughter's shirt, too.

katie - thanks for stopping by! I should really show you guys more - maybe another time, b/c we have some very funny ones.

I like them all!

Love your shirts! This is a cool fun monday!

Those are great shirts. Spring break in Canada doesn't have the same aura about it, but we watch enough TV to get the sense of your celebrations. We don't have Homecoming either, and I would say I am not even sure what it is about, but that would get me into a heap of trouble and emails, so I will say I have seen it on TV and researched it thoroughly instead. A good fun Monday post as usual.

Bart...before he was famous. I love that one!

Karina said...

I totally want your daughter's shirt! LOVE IT.

The college shirt is pretty cool too!

Tiggerlane said...

chrisb - I'll have to dig out more...I keep thinking of cooler ones we own. DANG!

kitten - I STILL haven't been able to visit all the participants - I want to raid their closets, tho.

dawn - unfortunately, you probably know more about spring break from watching it. I remember very little of each year's.

susan - thanks - he DID look different in the early days.

karina - the kiddo's shirt has shrunk, appropriately enough. I may have to have a give-a-way!

Offspring's shirt is too funny. And irreverence is okay once in a while for the spouse! I can't believe you kept your spring break shirts. I never went until I was married, and someone went on a cruise to the Caymans, Keys, and Cancun...all during SB in 2004. Very interesting experience.

The Offspring is one cool kid!

Kaytabug said...

I love love Offsprings shirt! But I couldn't wear it anymore just Ks ones!!
Your Spring Break ones are awesome!

I fixed that last one on my post...

The offspring's shirt is definitely a winner. My sister has one very similar.

Love S. Padre Island! Cute shirts too, love your daughter's, hilarious!

I used to read Calvin and Hobbes all the time. Loved them! I'll have to start again.

M@ said...

Is it Tuesday. I missed it. I think the offspring stole that shirt from you, Tigger.

:)

Love the Calvin and Hobbes shirt. I used to read that all the time.

Girls have eyes??? I've never noticed.

these are great! I love your daughter's one and her epxression is perfect.

I'm loving all your shirts, the spring break ones are great

AfKaP said...

Hootin Anni Doesn't understand because she isn't a man. The eyes seem to naturally go there. It would possibly be more effective if the print were smaller, but then the guys wouldn't notice it, but I still like the idea!

Tiggerlane said...

anglophile - I figured if I couldn't keep the memories, at least I'd have the shirts!

desert songbird - I'll trade her for a younger model. This teenager stuff is TOUGH!

kaytabug - I LOVE the peace bug!

alisonwonderland - the dog actually put a sweatshirt on last night. I think he was feeling left out.

kila - I have had SO many Calvin days. I needed a sidekick like Hobbes.

lisa's chaos - I sure wish I could go back to Padre, but at my age, I don't think I could keep up!

joy t. - I have all the cartoon books. They are still funny, after all this time. I particularly like the ones featuring demented snowmen.

m@ - Actually, I never really minded people not being able to find my eyes. But Lord help them if they got stuck on my butt!

my4kids - sounds like a lot of Calvin and Hobbes lovers out there! I wonder if they still sell those cartoon books?

willowtree - Once again, you prove yourself to be a true man.

bindi - the expression, when used against her mother, is not quite as cute.

alix - I will have to dig out some more to share! I didn't even put the naughty ones on here.

artist - I agree. It would be funny if the print was smaller - but the shirt certainly makes a statement!

I'm sorry I'm late. I LOVE the Life is Hell cartoons - I have the Love is Hell book around here somewhere. And I want that shirt Amber has! Although it probably doesn't apply to saggy mom boobs. ;)

Amanda said...

Love the DRINK TIL HE'S CUTE SHIRT.
haha I've done it a few times..... I mean. Um. Funny stuff!

Love the Spring Break t-shirt. Great sayings. The Offspring's shirt is pretty funny. I bet she gets a lot of stares with that one. Rogers is a great play on words.

Desert Songbird said...

Yeah, Bond wishes it were the back!

Vinny "Bond" Marini said...

HEY... I have been told for a 53 year old i have me some good butt going..DO NOT LISTEN to Songbird!

Anonymous said...

Your daughter's shirt? I tried to buy it at the fair. Gib wanted the companion shirt "tell you boobs to quit staring at my eyes". Hilarious! We refrained from purchasing them, but it's funny to see that you have one!

Tiggerlane said...

bond - hey, I usually check out the butt first. Just FYI.

kerith - you have been a victim of the scroll-down!

melissa - I have those books somewhere, too - but they are impossible to find. Wasn't Binky a riot? Oh...and they apply even more to saggy mom boobs. Men don't seem to care.

amanda - as I get older, I notice it takes more drinks!

sirdar - thanks - but now I'm worried that you might come steal our clothes...j/k!

desert songbird - LOL!!! I will sit back and watch you two duke it out...

bond - my husband's butt is 54, so I know it's possible....but where's the proof? Sounds like we need photos.

simply jenn - I didn't know there was a companion shirt - how cool!!!

laurie said...

those shirts are hilarious. especially the Offspring's. and the spring break one.

though "drink til he's cute" might not be the best advice...

Beccy said...

Love the t-shirts, the offsprings is brilliant!

Memphis said...

Amber has apparently inherited your ... um ... genetics, eh? Poor boys are going to be going insane chasing after her for the next many, many years.

Tiggerlane said...

laurie - when I drink that much, at my age, I usually just pass out.

beccy - sadly, it shrunk in the wash last week. Which makes it even harder for me to let her wear it! At least it's not low-cut.

memphis steve - yeah, they already are...but Roger and I are really, really mean! HA! I just wish she hadn't inherited her dad's high metabolism, b/c she's all petite in all the right places, and ba-boom! in all the right ones, too. Sigh.

Memphis said...

You are KILLING me!

I went to high school with a girl just like that. She made all the boys cry just by walking by.

Tiggerlane said...

memphis steve - mine will probably make them cry by hitting them.
