Fun Monday Addictive Web Sites

It's that time again! Now, I got my DNA results back, but in honor of Fun Monday, I'm going to wait to post them for a few more days. So, check back...

-Ann is this week's hostess, and she said, "I want to hear about a web site and not just about any old web site. I want to hear about a web site that's changed your life. A web site that you can't live without. A web site whose inventor you'd like to see win a McArthur Genius Grant."

For me? That web site would be PostSecret. It features real secrets, sent in by real people. I can't wait for Sunday to roll around, b/c that's when new secrets are posted, like this one:Not all the secrets are funny. Some are shocking, horribly poignant, or make me want to cry. I have seen so many of my own secrets posted that I feel comfort in knowing that I am not alone. The PostSecret project has grown so large that I'm sure you're familiar with it. The band All-American Rejects even featured some of these postcards in one of their music videos:

I hope you have a chance to browse this site at least once, and I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't find yourself with a Sunday addiction.

Now go check out all the other participants!

Great site and great song! But, Tig, I can read pretty darn fast and I missed about half of those. I'm losing brain speed! Can't wait to hear your DNA results, that was fast!

I have that cd but I had never seen the video. It was good. I will have to visit the website. Thanks, very good.

OMG I can't believe you are teasing us like this! Now I am going to be stalking you until I see that post!

I love PostSecret, and like you I have seen my own and am glad that I am not the only one! I even mentioned one in a post of mine back in Oct. that I totally could have written and when I saw it I bawled like a baby and was rocking back and forth in the fetal position. Sorry, got carried away.

I had never heard of this site... looks interesting.

I've seen and been on this site before. For me it is just to raw some of the things on it. I try not to make myself cry to often.

I totally forgot about postsecret but I love that site. Some of the secrets make me cry, cringe, and laugh.

Tease! Can't believe you're holding out on your dna!

I have all the books...or actually my daughter has all the books. I bought them, she takes them, we obviously both love PostSecrets a lot. Great choice for FM!

I keep forgetting that website is out there. I've popped in a few times and was mesmerized.

I looked through this website a little and find it crazy, lol !

Directing someone to the strip club is a hoot!! I will have to go check this one out.

Happy Fun Monday.

Never heard of this site, but will have to check it out.

sandy - hope it isn't too "heavy" - it's pretty intense.

simply jenn - if I hadn't seen most of those postcards on the site before, I might not have been able to read them, either - don't feel bad!

junebug - it's a GREAT CD, and addictive as well.

kaytabug - now I have to go check your archives...

peter - it is, but it can be shocking - so be prepared.

my4kids - I understand completely.

lisa's chaos - Teehee! I figure I should have something up by Wednesday.

joy t. - I want to get some of the books, since I know I've missed some Sundays, and there are no archives on the site.

pamela - glad I could put out a reminder.

gattina - it's a little out there, but it definitely "keeps it real."

aoj & the lurchers - they change the secrets each Sunday - so it's never stale.

hootin' anni - I had to pick a funny one to display - some of them were just too raw and wouldn't "fit" with my personality. THAT one did!

fianna - very much so - I'm glad I look at it home, on Sundays, so I don't have to worry about my reactions.

the very nice man - hope you enjoy!

kitten - be prepared - it can be quite shocking!

I've never heard of it either, but it sounds like it could be addictive!

I like postsecret, too. It is really emotional. There are some days I'm really in the mood and some days that I just can't take it. It is always interesting, though.

I liked the song by AAR before I saw the video; afterwards, I loved it. I was so slow, however, I didn't realize they were "postsecrets" postcards (duh).

I guess a lot of people like the site because they realize they aren't alone in their secrets....

Looking forward to Tig's results show ;).

Tiggerlane said...

the food snob - it is terribly addictive, and sometimes, if I'm up past midnite on Saturday night? I rush to check it.

kaycie - some postcards I would rather have never seen - that's for sure.

robin - it will hopefully be more exciting than last night's Golden Globes!

I am so with you on this one.

What an intriguing web site. I've flicked through the book but I didn't know they had a web site I definitely need to check it out.

Michelle said...

I have never heard of this website but I am going to check it out! I love secrets!!

Courtney said...

I adore PostSecret too! I went to a bookstore near my house to look at the books, and I found a secret in one. The woman wrote something along the lines of "The meds help but I still wish I was strong enought to commit suicude." I left her a note back saying she was stronger than she knew, just by admitting it. I hope she found it....

ChrisB said...

This is a new site to me, I will probably need to play the video again because I am not a speed reader and kept missing bits!!

laurie said...

oh, i remember reading about this quite some time ago! i always wondered if the secrets were real, or if people sent them in just to be outrageous.

i don't think there's any way of knowing.

but they're fascinating nonetheless.

Tiggerlane said...

mama drama jenny, the bloggess - glad to know I have a partner in voyeurism!

alix - some of the secrets are very relevant to what is going on in the world - and during troop deployments, can be very sad.

michelle - many of them are sexual, but I suppose that's part of being a human being - be prepared to be shocked some weeks!

southern doll - I have often heard of people leaving their secrets in the book - what a beautiful thing you did. I hope she found it.

chrisb - I had to watch it a few times when it first came out - but also, most of the secrets at that time were left up on the site in archives. Now that there are books, they don't have them...we are left to pause, and rewind, and pause...rewind!

laurie - I imagine some are hoaxes, but some are so personal, I can't help but think they are real.

Faye said...

Tiggerlane! How could you do this to your blogging friends??? I scrolled through the current crop and you're right, some are so funny and wicked, others very personal and heartfelt.

What with Sunday news show--and not PostSecret--how will Willie ever get a walk?

-Ann said...

I check that out every week. I love it. I have a postcard in my head - I just need to get the gumption together to make it and send it in.

I also love Post Secret and have been reading it for quite some time. There are some soul stirring secrets people have. Like several others, I'm also glad when I see my own and realize there are others dealing with similar issues.

Whenever men stop to ask for directions, people often think it's funny to give them WRONG directions. My dad's generation was really bad about this. So men learn not to ask. Then women harass the men for not asking. So men invented GPS. No more misdirecting us to strip clubs.

Claudia said...

Good one. Very good. I myself am a cute overload junkie. Not as deep, but damn cute!!

Karina said...

This is a great choice for a website. It is addictive, and sure runs the gamut of emotions, that's for sure!

Tiggerlane said...

faye - well, at least there's ONE thing soon to be removed from Sundays, and that's football. About which I'm VERY sad!

-ann - I have about 5 precomposed postcards, too - but I just can't send one in. Just...can't.

carrie sue - glad I'm not alone!

misslionheart - betcha can't wait for next Sunday, huh? And you're welcome - STILL working thru all the FM participants!

amy - you're very welcome!

cynthia - maybe I need to introduce some new sites on this blog - there's some bizarre stuff out there.

janet - hope you like it - I'm definitely an addict.

raising3saints - sometimes I don't get it all in one reading, and have to go back the next day.

bond - do you honestly think I would spill the beans just yet? I'm HOPING to get something up by tonight, since I'll be out of pocket all day tomorrow.

c - us chickens should unite!

nannykim - yes, but there are some weeks that the "theme" is lighthearted. But stay away on Valentine's weekend - very far away.

alison - guess I was wrong thinking everyone already knew about it - hope you enjoy!

nekkid lizard lady - now you guys are making me think bloggers are very sheltered...

sirdar - indeed, it does - I don't know WHY I thought everyone with internet in the world checked this site on Sundays! Many obviously don't!

kerith - what a fantastic site! I will have to show my daughter - that is right up her alley. Thanks!

sauntering soul - so glad there is another kindred spirit who enjoys this site - I was beginning to think I was some kind of freak for indulging every Sunday!

memphis steve - now, have you ever really been MISdirected to a strip club? C'mon - be honest!

claudia - cuteness CAN be good, or it can be nauseating - watch your dosage!

karina - totally - I experience something new each and every Sunday.

southern doll - I should really get her book - it would have helped me with NaBloPloMo!

monica - me, too - even though some of them are painful to read, it really is an insight to our fellow man.

linda - you are welcome!

anonymous - great idea - thanks fo the link!
