Too Busy Tiggerlane

I wish I had photos and excitement and all sorts of wonder for you to view here today, but I had to meet with my builder, and well...you'll get details later.

Go on over to Willowtree's page, because he did Tiggerlane righteous. Besides, he made me LOL for REALS, ya'll!

As a peace offering, I present this tale. You may have already read this in a forwarded email, but it is one of my favorites of all time. AND...it relates. I only wish I had written it.

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead.

He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them. After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.

When he was standing before it, he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.

When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"

"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.

"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.

"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up."

The man gestured, and the gate began to open.

"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.

I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."

The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.

After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence.

As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.

"Excuse me!" he called to the man. "Do you have any water?"

"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in."

"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.

"There should be a bowl by the pump."

They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it.

The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.

When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.

What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.

"This is Heaven," he answered.

"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."

"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell."

"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"

"No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind."

That damn music scares the crap out of me every time I come here!

I don't have real high hopes for ending up in Heaven, but if they didn't take pets I wouldn't want to go there anyway.

I can't believe in a heaven that screens an kind of people out... That's why I'm not Mormon any more ;)

desert songbird - Yeah, I really love my dog. Didn't know I was a dog person until I got him.

kila - usually I HATE forwarded email stories - but this one always touches my heart.

Willowtree - you don't HAVE to listen to the muic! I don't have it on autoplay - no one makes you press the play button!

And I'm not sure what "heaven" is to me - but my dog better be by my side!

pete - Good to see you again. And I agree...heck, I can't believe in a church that screens any kind of folks from entering their temple!

There's evidence that man and dog coevolved over the millenia and that dogs were the tool that allowed people (ancestors of Native Americans, pregenitors of a race) to cross the Berring Strait into North America.

Btw, I once saw a real wolf in the wild.

I can't believe you sent a dog tooth as a gift!! What a hoot!

Tiff, I'm not hitting play, it's starting automatically, that's why it startles me. But what's even stranger is that I have an add-on for Firefox that stops autoplays but it still starts, and even stranger is that there's no Stop button.

This is an interesting mystery. Maybe Jesus hates me.

Peter's prize. Best. Ever.

Uh, and I still haven't forgotten about that tag. Really. I haven't. Maybe I am blocking it out until someone forgets... maybe I should quit talking about it?

Hey, Willowtree - the best way to combat that is to leave your computer on MUTE. I only put on the sound when necessary.

matt - I've had too many beers tonight to follow what you're talking about...whoa, dude. Did vacation warp your brain?

WT - Any musical requests? Oh, and desert songbird had a good tip. That way, you can still look at the silver-painted diva.

marnie - what? Scared that WT could use anything WORSE against you? C'mon girl - you're a mirror-photo myspace photo kinda chick. Give it up.

desert songbird - thanks for schooling WT. And your prize is still delinquent - but TRUST. It won't be as gnarly as a dog tooth! Funny, raffi still hasn't sent his email addy. Must be chicken.

even though I've read it before, it still gives me shivers.

I can't imagine a heaven without my best furry pal waiting for me there.

I miss my dog.

dan - thanks, and I had an exhausting, but productive weekend!

pamela - I can't imagine it, either. And I'm weirded out about the music thing - does it ALWAYS happen - or is it just this particular song?

jenny - glad you agree!
