The Controversy Continues...

Just another quick post. I really have some cool things to tell you all, and I still have to finish my "tag" assignment.

But have to update you regarding this post. Evidently, Merck has received negative responses to its new Garadsil vaccine, and made this decision today.

Hmmmm...I guess Merck figured they had enough problems without adding this to them.

I think the vaccine is a good idea, but I stand by making it "highly recommended" versus "mandatory." Parents of young girls need to know that medical prevention can be used in conjunction with parental supervision and education, not in place of.

I'm glad Merck made that decision - BUT, PUHLEEZE - religious groups saying it "encourages promiscuity"? I HATE when they do that.

prepare for a Karmyn rant:
Teenagers in love are going to have sex regardless of a vaccine or not. Parental roles, church, peer pressure, and education are all a part of that decision....NOT the fact that they get a vaccine. SHEESH - sometimes I want to wring some religious right neck.

sorry about that rant.

Obviously being a guy with no children, I don't really have an opinion on the subject (yes I know, that's unusual, go on have a laugh). However I do have an interest, as this was actually discovered in Australian.

This story is more about the predatory tactics of the drug companies, who run second only to the NRA in how much it spends on lobbyists.

To attempt to make anything mandatory in America really takes some balls (given the litigatious nature of the country), let alone a drug that could give a false sense of security to vulnerable youth.

Just to put the drug companies in perspective, the FTA between Australia and the US was held up for 7 years due to intensive lobbying and campaign contributions by the drug companies (we don't pay more than $25 for any prescription).

I think my biggest problem with it is that it isn't a vaccine / or an immunization for the BOY!!!!

Let the guy with the germ be treated first.

Gardisil? That sounds like a spermacide. I don't appreciate that.

Scary scary vaccines. I swear I keep thinking of Tuskeegee every time I read about Merck and govt. officials trying so hard to foist this thing on young girls.
