A New Member of the Family

Could you resist this little face? I mean, really?
Evidently, we couldn't. One night, our band drummer and friend, Lucas, noticed a small puppy across the road from our property, curled up against a stump, while on the way to our house. I was headed down the driveway to go check out the situation...when Roger said for me to just let it be.

And then Lucas left to get food about an hour and a half later. I received a frantic text message from him that the puppy was still there...and something had to be done. Knowing that I would never be able to sleep at night with the thought of that baby, down there alone, I headed down the driveway with food and water bowls to at least give the poor thing a chance. Lucas was already trying to coax her away from the stump...as Roger watched from our porch. Finally, after listening to Lucas and me fret and carry on and attempt to assist her, Roger said, "Go ahead and just bring the dog up here."She looks cute in Roger's lap? Doesn't she? She is SO SMALL! Well, at least to me...after having Poo Woo for so long. And I DON'T LIKE SMALL DOGS. Usually. I'm a "big dog" kinda girl. But something about this little face...this sweet personality...I'm sunk.I don't know what breed she is, but with a little bit of internet research, my guess is half Min Pin, half Dachshund. I'm taking her to the vet for her first visit on Friday, so maybe he'll have a clue.
She's a good cuddler, too. I don't know if it is my maternal instinct, my hormones, my age, or just that I can't resist such a little cutie...but I think Shorty is going to be a part of the family.

(Oh, and The Offspring's reaction? She was okay with it...not thrilled...and mostly worried that the dog would cost us money that would not then be available for HER needs. Jerk.)

Adorable, and how could anyone resist that snuggling? And look how cute she sleeps! Sigh. I wish I could have a dog. How is Poo Woo handling it all?

first -- I detest people, utterly detest people who drop helpless animals out in the country to fend for themselves. Poor little creatures.

and then to your question -- oh wow. I love puppies and kittens. WR would have said the same thing as Roger initially. He may have caved, too, though.

That was nice of you to save that puppy.

Bet he'll (she'll? ... I just forgot!) be a friend for life.

I've got to check out those two addictions. Those look like fun.

My blog is private (long story) but if you would like to visit, please just shoot me an e mail at WendyOhW@yahoo.com and I'll send you an invitation. :)

Have a great week!

A new post? I must be in the wrong place... ;)

Super adorable. How nice that hubby let you keep her! I'm sure The Offspring will come around soon, providing the pup doesn't chew up her favorite shoes.

A mystery background, she fits right in!

I'm with you. Something totally had to be done.
You couldn't leave that poor thing there.
Does she have a name yet?

She looks like she'll be a great addition to the family. I can't see any Dachshund in her though, her legs would be more dwarfish, unless it just doesn't show in the photos.

Thanks for stopping by. Adding you to my blogroll. :)

Good job on the weight loss! Awesome!

I have lost, and KEPT off 26 lbs. Put 8 back on. I HAD lost 34 lbs. but I think the stress has been working on me. I'm heading back in the right direction again.

Good to meet ya' and I'll be checking back in on you and our little fur friend.

Have a great day!

ChrisB - yes, totally hooked...cuddled with her until 2AM this morning.

Desert Songbird - Poo Woo is amazingly tolerant! She nips him like crazy, but he barely paws her. They fight a bit over toys, tho...

Pamela - I just don't understand how people can do that to puppies and kittens - or babies, for that matter!

wendy - thanks so much! I'll be sure to put you on my blogroll!

Kila - LOL! You're so right - and The Offspring is warming up to her a bit!

Rayne - her name is "Shorty," b/c of Lucas, and we needed something to scream at her when she tried to run across the road. It was a quick fix!

WT - she is, according to the vet - she has squatty legs, and he said he is jointed there like a dachshund. They call it a "doxie pin!"

wendy - thanks for the add! And I'll help motivate you to continue on! It's a TOUGH process...

Heather - thanks...I just love her SO MUCH!

Oh Shorty is adorable! I am with you, I am a big dog kind of girl. But I find myself wanting a min pin SO bad. She looks so sweet! I am surprised you didn't name her Lyric or something to do with the band. :)

I am right there with Pamela too! I detest those people. They make me so mad. I get sucked in my all the strays. That is why we have Mia. And if that Bull Mastiff would have stuck around I would probably still have him too. :)

This won't succeed in actual fact, that is what I believe.
